September 26, 2022 Day 3 around Princeton New Jersey 133 mile

Today is partly sunny and cool. We are staying in a Westin hotel. No complementary breakfast here. Also no ice machines. You must ask them for some at the front desk and it comes in a zip lock bag. The room doesn’t have a microwave and there is no guest laundry. This won’t be a hotel of choice in the future. The driver’s meeting is scheduled for 7:15 at the host hotel. We got there about 7:20 and it was just starting out in the circular drive. That made hearing difficult and most of the drivers have hearing aides. The first stop is at a nearby community college to hear a lecture on 10 crucial days in the revolutionary war. There were at least two errors in the directions to the college. Lots of cars had to turn around including us. The man who was supposed to give the lecture was ill so one of the host members read the speech. The information was most interesting and had occurred in the area. They provided coffee and turnovers in the parking lot. We had cherry turnovers that only had a small amount of cherry filling. Then it was off to Pennsylvania and some covered bridges. Once again there were errors in the directions so we don’t have a warm fuzzy about them. They were correct about one bridge that was extremely narrow. The bridge has a metal deck and really should be one way at a time. The traffic on the bridge is too great to do that I suppose. The problem with any of these tours is that the driver and one passenger really don’t get to see much because you are so busy watching the road and reading the directions. The roads were quite narrow and winding for the most part. Some of the houses we passed were huge, some were new and some were old. Most have big lawns and beautiful landscaping. The towns are small but numerous. We eventually reached Van Sandat Covered Bridge. They requested that we honk our horns as we drove through. The bridge really echos. We drove through the village of Lahaska which was having some kind of scarecrow contest. Scarecrows were all over the town. So were people to look at them. They even had a tent where you could learn to make your own. Didn’t get any pictures however. Then it was on to Loux Covered Bridge. From there we headed for the marina for lunch. Well the directions were really confusing this time. Most of the out of town folks had to turn around somewhere. We did finally get to the marina which is full of sail boats that go on the creek that is more the size of a medium size river. Lunch arrived about 30 minutes late so we weren’t as late as we thought. After lunch a lot of us thought we were going to the ice cream shop mentioned in the directions. Turned out that was not the case so turn around again. Another section of narrow winding road to get to Erwinna Covered Bridge and a little further to Frankenfield Covered Bridge. The roads keep changing names and the street signs are almost nonexistent. This adds greatly to the trouble following the directions. Cabin Run Covered Bridge was the last one we went through. They were all very similar and looked in good condition. We met at Washington Crossing State Park where the ice cream truck brought a big variety of ice cream bars. Then it was return to the hotels but not the way we went this morning. The tour folks figured out another route. Our sandwiches at lunch were so large that we saved half and had that for supper in the room.
